Where do I place my keywords for seo on my website? This is a common question that many beginners have. Once you login to your website via office live, you go to design site. You then will see a list of your website pages. Next to each web page that you have created, there will be different options.
You need to choose the properties tab next to the page that you want to optimize. You then need to click on the Search Engine Optimization tab. That is where you will insert your keywords, meta tags and page description for that web page. Make sure you read the instructions to the right of the seo tab. It will let you know how many keywords and metatags to place in the seo box.
How to optimize my website?
To optimize your website's pages you need to enhance or perfect the pages by adding good keywords, meta tags and descriptions. This way, your site will be recognized faster, easier and more often from search engines and viewers. To optimize your website and apply good SEO, you need to also add the keywords through out your website pages. One thing that is important about SEO that I have learned is that you need to add keywords in each webpage that relates to that certain web page. You should not try to get ranked for the keyword dog if your website is about cars. You need to think of what people are searching for and apply those keywords that relate to your website. Remember that adding keyword phrases is getting more popular than one word keywords. The competition for certain keywords are extremely high and you should research the competition.
Good keywords to pick are the ones with low competition and high searches.
How many keywords do I include in my website?
If you are asking your self "how many keywords do I place in my website?" than a good number to go by is 3-4 keywords or keyword phrases per web page. Each keyword should be inserted on your website three to seven times per 300 word web page.
Common SEO mistakes made via Microsoft Office Live websites:
(I have also made these mistakes in my past website creations.)
1. Many people just start typing in a bunch of words or phrases in the seo area without much thought. Many think that if they type in a certain word, they will automatically be ranked high for that key word. That is not correct, you need to have related keywords that you use in your website's content. Even then you are not guaranteed to have that keyword rank you high. You are however, letting search engines know the contents of your website. Do not cram a bunch of unrelated keywords and phrases in your seo box!
2. Copying and pasting the same keywords and meta tag descriptions for each web page! This is not a good seo technique. You need to figure out good keywords for each website page. Building a successful website takes time and you can't be lazy when it comes to optimizing your pages.
3. Placing wrong seo key words on wrong pages of your website! You need to pay attention to which keywords and descriptions go where. Figure out the best ones to use for that page. Tip: What is your web page about? Once again, build good keywords around your website's content.
4. Many people place their keywords where their web page descriptions are supose to go. In the description part of the search engine optimization tab, you need to describe what your website is about. Add a couple of keywords to your descriptions. Your web page descriptions is usually what is placed on search engine results. Make sure your descriptions are not just a list of keywords.

Factors to consider when selecting keywords
There are many factors to consider when selecting keywords for your web sites or web pages. Website developers usually make the mistakes of not paying attention to keyword selection, keyword placement, and keyword research. If you want to get good rankings in the search engines, you need to apply good Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques. Selecting, researching and placing keywords on your website is one main SEO technique you need to consider.
Keyword Selection-
One factor to consider when selecting keywords is the type of keywords you should choose to get your website found in search results. Ask yourself, "Will people search for this certain keyword?" Another factor to consider is how many key words to use for your website. Many years ago, Webmasters selected as many keywords as possible to get traffic to their websites. This lead to bad SEO techniques which forced the search engines to change their ranking formulas. It is now recommended that you select only two or three keywords or keyword phrases per web page. This is so that your website doesn’t get penalized for keyword stuffing, or overusing keywords to trick the search engines into ranking your website higher.
Selecting Broad or Specific keywords-
When choosing words or phrases for your website, you may need to determine if you will use broad keywords or specific keywords. Broad key words are short words that many people search for. They tend to be small words that are not specific. Such as: "Website" instead of "Business Website". Specific keywords tend to get better results from the search engines because there is way less competition. Search Engines will most likely rank a branded website higher in the search results for broader keywords. This is because search engines respect authority and aged websites. Therefore, you should pick specific keywords or phrases for your website that may have a better chance getting listed and ranked well.
Selecting unique or branded key words-
Another factor you should consider is to use unique or branded keywords in your keyword selection. Many website owners make up their own unique keywords to use, therefore their site rankings are high in the search engine results. Make sure to use your own branded words instead of trying to get ranked for words such as "Google" or "Nike." Their websites will be too much of a competition for you.
Keyword Research-
Another factor to consider when selecting keywords is to research your keywords before choosing which ones you will use. There are keyword tools such as "Google Keyword Tool" that will help you decide if the competition is too high for that certain word. The research tool will also help you identify how many searches are made for those certain key words or phrases on a monthly basis. Due to Google hiding exact facts on selecting keywords, you should use the keyword tools for only research and not a guaranteed ranking result. To get accurate results, try using more than one keyword tool.
Keyword Placement-
Keyword placement is another factor to consider when selecting your keywords. You will need to understand the importance of keyword density, prominence and frequency. It is best to remember that when you are publishing your information and knowledge online, you are typing to your readers and not necessarily to the search engines. The search engines like people friendly websites. If your content is directed only to the search engines, you will not receive returning website visitors and you website will also be ranked lower than a people friendly website. Make a wise decision on how many keywords you use and how often you place them on your web pages. Your keyword selection, research and placement will effect your organic traffic results.
