Why submit sitemap to Google? Submitting a sitemap is recommended because it tells Google what pages are on your website. You may be thinking that Google should already know right? Well not all the time does google crawl and index all of your website pages. Specially if your website isn't a popular website with many backlinks directing to your website. Submitting a sitemap gives Google more information about your website and that will then increase your search engine traffic.
When you made your Officelive website, there was already a sitemap page included. However, if you try to go submit it to Google Webmaster tools, it will not be accepted. Google webmaster will state that your sitemap isn't in the right format. You will need to generate a sitemap in the .txt format. Read below for the steps I took to submit sitemap to Google.
Steps to take to Generate a Google Sitemap for your website!
Use the Online Google Sitemap Generator on this page! This sitemap generator will make your website sitemap for you! You will need to choose the .txt option for an officelive website.
Open Notepad!
You will then need to save the .txt code that was generated to your notepad! Remember to save it as sitemap.txt.
Go to your officelive website and upload the .txt code to your document gallery!
After your sitemap is uploaded to your document gallery, click on it to get the URL. Copy the sitemap.txt url.
Login to your Google Webmaster Tools account! You now want to submit that URL or paste your sitemap url to the "submit sitemap" section.
You should now be done with the submit sitemap to Google process!
