Robot Meta Tag, Description Meta Tag, Author Meta Tag and Title Meta Tag are all meta tags that help the search engines. Many Search Engine Optimization experts will recommend meta tags so that your website is search engine friendly. There is a big difference between search engine friendly and people friendly websites. You want your website to be search engine friendly and people search friendly.
Although it may seem to be a pain to insert all of the Search Engine Optimization tags, keywords and descriptions, it is something that will satisfy your curious mind when it comes time. Robot Meta Tags
You will need to add meta tags for the search engine robots to no index/no follow your website. These meta tags communicate with the robots and tell them what or what not to do with your web page(s). Please keep in mind that search engines index, and crawl (spider) web pages and not websites. Each web page is crawled, therefore it is important to place related meta tags and descriptions to tell the robots what each individual web page is about. Here is a basic code for the Meta Tag Robot that many website owners use:
<meta name="robots" content="follow, all" />
They usually place that at the head section of their website. To make certain that all web pages are followed by robots, webmasters insert the above code in their website. See steps below for Microsoft officelive websites.
Add Robot Meta Tags to your Microsoft Office Live Website
After logging into your website, you need to go to the list of your website pages inside your officelive page editor.
Next to your pages, there should be a properties tab. Choose which web page you want to add the robot meta tag to. Now choose the properties tab. In the properties tab, there is the Search Engine Optimization tab.
Within the Search Engine Optimization option, there is a website keyword meta tag box. you need to enter the below code if you want your website pages indexed by the search engine robots. (This is not mandatory for getting crawled by Google.)
Make sure if you have keywords and meta tags already in the box, place the below code beneath the keywords. If there is no room, that means you have too many keywords and meta tags and you need to remove some words.

If you want the search engines to Not follow or index a web page, you just add the word "No" in front of the Index and or Follow.
Google Recommends only placing a robot meta tag if you don't want them to index or follow your page and links.
