Add a Favicon to a Microsot Office Live Website!

What is a favicon? A favicon is a short word for favorite website icon. Have you ever seen a little picture in your internet address bar as you are viewing a website? That little picture or image is a favicon. It symbolizes your website.

When people bookmark websites or add them to their favorites, the little icon will appear next to the website in the browser or address bar at the top of your computer screen. It will  also appear next to the website in the favorites list.

This web page will help you as a website owner, place a favicon into your officelive website. I was getting emails from others asking "how to add an icon to their address bar"? So, I spent many hours researching and experimenting until I did it to my own website. If you look up at the address bar, you should see a little picture of my help website next to the web address. The steps below will tell you just how I added the favicon to my website. Please stay patient and follow each step that is provided. If for any reason, you are having problems, contact me and I will help you.

Add a Favicon to a Microsoft Office Live Website!

Step One: Pick out which icon you would like to use to represent your website. I used a mini screen shot of my website for my favicon. You can use any image or icon that relates to your website. Save your icon image to your computer. (You can save a picture or image to your computer by right clicking on your mouse.)

Step Two: Visit this website. Keep this page available for the next step. The website that I am referring you to is a favicon generator website. (I don't get credit for refering you.) It is a free site that turns your icon (image) into a favicon.ico file. You need to have your image saved as favicon.ico. Follow the instructions on that page by browsing for and generating your icon. Your icon image should be saved already to your computer. Download the .ico file that they generate for you on their website. Then follow the next step below.

Step Three: Go back to your officelive website and go to your document gallery. Not your image gallery but your document gallery and upload the favicon.ico file to your gallery. Out of the three different files that you saved and downloaded in Step 2, you need to choose the icon file and upload it. Remember, if you get confused and need help, just let me know. I will try to help as much as possible for free.

Step Four: After your favicon.ico file is uploaded, you are now going to go to each page on your website and paste the below code to your keywords area of your website. This is at the properties-search engine optimization tab in your officelive website. Make sure you paste the code below the keywords, and meta-tags that you have there. If you don't have room in the keyword box, you need to delete some of the keywords. You don't need that many keywords anyway.

Step Five: Save and exit out of your website pages. You now need to refresh your website and view to see if it is working properly. If it isn't working yet, don't freak out because it takes a while for the favicons to appear. If you followed all of the steps and it isn't working within a day, you can contact me for help.
